Bob Daisley was born Robert John Daisley in Sydney, Australia, on 13 February 1950. He started playing guitar at 13 and switched to bass a year later, rapidly gaining local attention through his work with guitarist Dennis Wilson in bands such as The Powerpact and Mecca. After a stint in the pioneering Australian rock outfit Kahvas Jute, Daisley moved to England and landed spots in Chicken Shack (1972), Mungo Jerry (1973) and the hard‑rock band Widowmaker (1975–1977) before being recruited by Ritchie Blackmore to join Rainbow. He played on tracks for Rainbow’s 1978 album Long Live Rock ’n’ Roll and toured extensively with the band until 1979, when Blackmore replaced him with Deep Purple alumnus Roger Glover.
